Description

Delicious and fluffy dumplings made with active sourdough starter, perfect for adding to your favorite broth.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water (more if needed)
  • fresh herbs (optional: parsley or dill)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Whisk them together until well mixed.
  2. Add your bubbly sourdough starter to the dry mixture. Using a spatula, mix until combined. The dough will be quite thick.
  3. Slowly add water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough is soft but not overly sticky. Aim for a consistency that easily holds together.
  4. Using your hands, shape the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. If the dough is too sticky, you can lightly flour your hands.
  5. Bring your favorite broth to a gentle simmer in a large pot.
  6. Carefully drop the dumplings into the simmering broth. Cover the pot and let them cook for about 10-15 minutes. They’re done when they float to the surface and are cooked through.
  7. Ladle the broth and dumplings into bowls. Add your favorite toppings, like fresh herbs or yogurt, and enjoy!
