Description

A delicious Chopped Cheese Sandwich made with seasoned ground beef, melted American cheese, and fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 sandwich rolls or Hero rolls
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet or flat-top pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add the diced onions and cook until they soften and become slightly golden. This step builds a sweet, savory base that defines the sandwich.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up as it cooks. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. As the beef browns, use your spatula to chop it into small pieces—this is where the Chopped Cheese Sandwich gets its name and signature texture.
  3. Once the beef is fully cooked, lay slices of American cheese over the top. Let the cheese melt into the meat, then continue chopping and mixing until everything is combined into a rich, cheesy filling.
  4. While the beef cooks, lightly toast the sandwich rolls. A warm, slightly crisp roll makes all the difference.
  5. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on the inside of each roll. Fill generously with the cheesy beef mixture, then top with shredded lettuce and tomato slices for a fresh crunch.
  6. Close the sandwich, press gently, and serve immediately while everything is hot and melty.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add pickles or jalapeños.
  • This sandwich is best served hot.
