Deliciously crispy cream cheese poppers perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese softened
- 1 cup (120 g) shredded mozzarella or mild cheddar cheese
- 3 green onions finely sliced plus extra for garnish
- 1 large egg room temperature
- 1/2 cup (60 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Oil for frying such as vegetable or canola
Instructions
- Beat the softened cream cheese in a medium bowl until smooth and fluffy.
- Stir in the shredded cheese, sliced green onions, and egg until well combined.
- Sprinkle the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper over the mixture and gently fold until no dry flour remains.
- Cover the bowl and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes to firm up.
- Meanwhile, pour oil into a deep saucepan or Dutch oven to a depth of about 2 inches and heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Scoop walnut-sized portions of the chilled mixture with a small cookie scoop or spoon and carefully drop them into the hot oil.
- Fry the poppers in batches for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until deeply golden and crisp.
- Transfer the fried poppers to a paper towel–lined plate to drain and immediately sprinkle with a pinch of salt and extra green onions.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- Chilling the mixture helps the poppers maintain their shape while frying.
- Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for optimal crispiness.
