Delicious homemade donuts that are easy to make and taste amazing!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Whisk in the remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, and salt.
- Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick and cut out donut shapes.
- Place cut donuts on a floured tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts for about 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels, then roll warm donuts in granulated sugar to coat.
Notes
- Ensure the yeast is active by checking if it foams when mixed with warm milk.
- Donuts are best eaten fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
- To achieve a lighter donut, knead the dough adequately.
